is consistency—even when going through
perimenopause.
“Work with your physician to monitor
and follow up on health issues,” Gilhousen
said. “Diagnostic tests can give you
advance time to plan treatment. Plus,
your daily testing and charting can
help you detect patterns—although
menopause can throw the charts into
chaos for a while.”
Gilhousen added that diabetes is
a chronic disease, meaning you will
deal with it the rest of your life, even as
symptoms of menopause fade.
“Making changes to our lifestyles is
never easy, and when your body starts
making changes on its own, your battle
is even more challenging,” she said.
With help from your healthcare team,
the change of life doesn’t have to change
how you live your life with diabetes.

diabetes or prediabetes, join Gilhousen at
one of several Diabetes Support groups,
which meet throughout Ashtabula
County.
In group classes or one-on-one patient
consultations, Gilhousen will talk about
what diabetes is and how to take control

Building the facilities we need
We’re not done yet. We will see more
physicians arrive in the next few months,
and in early 2014, we’ll take an even bigger
step in meeting the local healthcare needs
of our residents: ACMC will open the
Conneaut Family Health Center to add to
the full-time family physician coverage
already there.
When the facility opens in early 2014,
Dr. Ruffa will transfer there, where ACMC
will offer laboratory services, digital x-ray
imaging, digital mammography and more.
It is a big step, but it is just one of
many we expect to take in 2014 as ACMC
continues to grow so we can meet your
healthcare needs, right here in our own
county.
