Ashtabula County Medical Center | ACMC Pulse | Winter 2017

IN EARLY 2018, ACMC patients will gain easier access to primary care providers, Express Care, lab, and diagnostic services when renovations at the former Ashtabula Plaza are complete. “The past three years have seen tremendous growth for ACMC—so much so that we are bursting at the seams within the hospital walls,” said ACMC Healthcare System President and CEO Michael Habowski. “The purchase of the Ashtabula Plaza provided us with an additional 122,000 square feet of space less than a block away from ACMC’s main campus to expand services and make receiving care at ACMC more convenient for patients and families.” One stop has it all Bringing all of ACMC’s Ashtabula- based primary care providers to one location, and including Express Care, lab and radiology in the same suite, helps accomplish that goal. The new space is 18,000 square feet at the south end of the building. It brings together primary care providers Emily Brown, DNP; James Chillcott, MD; Suk Choi, MD; Nathaniel Franley, MD; John Lee, DO; and Jen Stauffer, NP; as well as Express Care Nurse Practitioners, lab and radiology. Dr. Franley will also provide non-surgical orthopaedic and sports medicine services. “It will be good to have these providers and these services under one roof,” Habowski said. “The new facility has much better parking, easier access in and out of the building, and will have expanded services so patients can be seen by a provider and get tests done in one location.” More parking at the hospital The new facility also frees up space in the current Ashtabula Clinic building that is attached to the hospital. “The space won’t be empty for long,” said Habowski. “We continue to recruit full-time providers to Ashtabula County. We’ll now have space for new specialists.” Moving primary care and Express Care across the street will make more parking available in front of the hospital for patients and visitors. The renovations to the former plaza also include a face-lift for the entire building, which includes a fresh look to the facade and former storefronts. “In making this purchase, our thoughts were also in how we could reclaim a building that sat mostly vacant for years. Our 113-year history is not only providing healthcare, but also improving the quality of our communities. The improvements we have in mind will not only give patients easier access to better healthcare, but will also promote business growth and development.” Habowski said further renovation plans would be updated in the next issue of Pulse .
