Ashtabula County Medical Center | ACMC Pulse | Summer 2020

Community THROUGHOUT Ashtabula County Medical Center’s 115- year history, we have enjoyed the support of the community. That support was again on display as ACMC caregivers responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. “On behalf of our caregivers, I’m so very grateful to the companies and individuals who have contacted us to find out how they can help. It’s been overwhelming—in a good way,” said ACMC Healthcare System President and CEO Michael Habowski. “The show of support for our caregivers— who come to work every day on the front lines of fighting this pandemic—has been tremendous.” Local companies and government officials began calling ACMC in early March with offers We appreciate you! Local restaurant owners also called to ask if they could provide meals or gift cards for caregivers. They delivered food to ACMC’s Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit and other nursing units. Some fed ACMC’s entire staff. Easing the burden Several companies wanted to offer financial support. The ACMC Foundation created the COVID-19 Relief and Support Fund. “Having the COVID-19 Relief Fund to support our caregivers is a welcome resource,” Habowski said. Individuals also donated cloth face masks, prayers and well- wishes. On April 4, caregivers were honored with a special night of prayer and music on 98.3 The Bull. On May 7, two C-130 Hercules planes from the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station flew over ACMC to honor caregivers. One online message summed up the community’s gratitude this way: “Thank you to all the health care workers that go in everyday to care for anyone in need, regardless of the personal risk, long hours and stress. We are fortunate for caring people like you!” ACMC Pulse • acmchealth.org 3
