By the early 1940s, the population of the area served by Ashtabula General Hospital had increased to about 45,000. WHEN ASHTABULA GENERAL Hospital opened its doors on June 20, 1904, it ensured that moms-to-be would have a safe, secure place to deliver their babies. We started with just one physician—obstetrician and pediatrician Bernice Fleek.
